This itinerary is designed for travelers with limited time in Cape Town, either on a layover or a short trip. It maximizes efficiency while showcasing the city’s key attractions and experiences.
Things To Note
- Travelers flying into Cape Town have one airport option: Cape Town International Airport.
- Pack layers! Cape Town’s weather is notoriously fickle, with “four seasons in one day” being a common saying. Be prepared for sunshine, wind, rain, and even snow on Table Mountain in winter.
- South Africa uses the Rand (ZAR). You can exchange currency at the airport or at banks in the city. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s always good to have some cash on hand for tipping and small purchases.
- Cape Town is generally safe, but petty theft can occur. Be aware of your surroundings, especially at night, and don’t carry valuables in plain sight.
- Uber is a convenient and affordable way to get around the city. You can also use the hop on a hop-off bus tour or rent a car.
- Tipping is not mandatory, but it’s appreciated. A 10% tip is customary for good service at restaurants.
- Learn a few basic Zulu, Xhosa, or Afrikaans phrases to impress the locals.
- Don’t forget to bargain at the markets.
- Sample the local cuisine, from boerewors (sausages) to bunny chow (curry in a bread bowl.)
